As a Special Projects Superintendent, you will use our foundational drivers to play a crucial role in shaping the highways that connect communities and drive progress across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In this position, you will:
*Assist in the planning and development of Charlottesville Residency's Rural Rustic Program, and oversee all construction and delivery of the program, ensuring compliance with established schedules and budgets.
*Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the residency's annual pavement program by providing technical expertise and knowledge in every aspect of road preparation and resurfacing.
*Plan, develop, deliver, and oversee the residency's ASD pipe rehabilitation program, including other pipe projects requiring specialized activity.
*Identify scope, develop cost estimates, and oversee the residency's safety and operational improvement (CSOI) projects.
*Assist in the planning and development of the residency's annual budget and spending plan. Manage and monitor ongoing expenditures to remain within allocated budgets.
*Serve as the POC for the City of Charlottesville's annual inspection program.
*Monitor maintenance and hired equipment contracts for compliance with required specifications for special projects.
*Inspect roadways and cross pipes for maintenance needs and develop schedules to address findings.
*Create and submit a variety of reports and documents to support maintenance operations.
*Receive, investigate, and respond to customer concerns and resolve issues raised.

*In this position, you will be responsible for providing guidance and supervision during emergency maintenance operations in the absence of the residency maintenance manager. This is accomplished by implementing emergency plans to include incident management, snow removal, and hurricane preparedness. You will oversee, direct, and, at times, work alongside crew during inclement weather and disaster response, including after hours, on weekends, and holidays as required.


Minimum Qualifications


*Knowledge of highway construction and maintenance equipment, materials and work methods, practices, and procedures.
*Knowledge of contract development and administration for goods and services contracts.
*Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
*Skill in reading road and bridge sketches.
*Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers.
*Ability to schedule, plan, and monitor work activities and ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
*Ability to organize and plan work within a budget, develop cost estimates, and manage inventory.
*Ability to gather data, conduct research, and create reports and correspondence.
*Valid driver's license.


Additional Considerations


*Experience leading emergency operations activities.
*Experience developing, planning, scheduling and overseeing construction or maintenance projects.
*Knowledge of business principles related to inventory control, contract administration, and procurement.
*Experience planning, developing, and managing a budget and monitoring inventory.
*Ability to read and interpret roadway construction plans, specifications, standards, federal MUTCD, and other related guidelines and memoranda

Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
