The selected candidate will perform in-house technical activities, system configurations and installations to ensure all electronic toll collection systems and supporting peripherals are functional and are maintained in a state of good repair for safe passage and for the accurate collection and recordation of toll revenue and traffic.

This rewarding position’s specific responsibilities and duties will include but are not limited to:

Automatic Coin Machine and Dual Vault Management System – Perform in-house repair services for all automatic coin machines, vault housing units, card readers, microprocessors and other associated equipment and supporting software. Test and repair equipment at the component level to ensure communications and proper operations between Host Servers and other in-lane equipment.

In-Lane Equipment Maintenance, Repair and Replacement – Using electronic instruments, troubleshoot and correct ETC equipment malfunctions. Repair in-lane communication systems hardware and wiring between Host and VES servers, all toll booth equipment, and supporting workstations. Plan, document, and install all in-lane new equipment and supporting software builds and perform post-installation testing. Perform repair of patron displays, canopy directional lights and signage and in-lane traffic signals.

Work Order Management and Training and System Backups - Perform work order requests as required based on the priority statuses. Update instruction manuals and provide staff training as needed. Perform system software database backups of all facility systems to support timely recovery resulting from system failures and disaster incidents.

Toll Violation Enforcement and Risk Management – Review Violation Enforcement images to assist in toll violation disputes and customer inquiries. Review and assist to help resolve equipment damage and liability claims related to state and patron equipment damages and other accident-related incidents.

Buildings, Grounds, Toll Lanes and Parking Area Maintenance - Inspect all plaza grounds and parking areas to ensure grounds are free of debris and trash. Perform visual inspections of all parking areas and sidewalks to ensure surfaces are smooth, even and provide safe transition. Perform visual inspections of lawn and prune trees and shrubbery as required to maintain safe and clear pathways. Perform visual inspections of perimeter fencing at all plazas and repair any area breaches; ensure all facility signage is clear, visible, and erect and that all parking stops are secure.

HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing Systems – Perform repair and replacement services required to maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, and electrical and plumbing systems at all plazas. Perform preventative and corrective measures on all facility equipment. Inspect building and roofing integrity to maintain and perform general maintenance as needed.

Fleet Management - Visually inspects all facility-assigned vehicles to ensure vehicles are safe and are equipped with all required equipment and paperwork. Ensure vehicles are scheduled and transported for required maintenance services.

Emergency Response Services – During emergency operations ensure toll road and facility are clear and free of unsafe elements to ensure safe environment for employees and the traveling public. Ensure toll road is in good operating condition for public.


Minimum Qualifications


Working knowledge in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, CCTV, telecommunications, RFID equipment, microprocessors, video imaging equipment, and facility plant services.

Demonstrated skills in equipment repair, fabrication, and operation of electronic test equipment.

Demonstrated ability to perform system and software diagnoses; repair, fabricate, and install electronic and mechanical systems to include power generation, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Demonstrated ability to work read, comprehend, and work from diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and cut sheets.

Ability to work in a 24-7 hour fast paced operation and facility.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform in time-sensitive work environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of the safety aspects of working as a field technician.

Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form.

Valid Virginia Driver’s License is required.


Additional Considerations


Equipment operating experience (i.e. backhoe, bobcat, forklift, bucket truck).

Considerable working experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic toll equipment.

Working knowledge in the repair and maintenance of automatic coin machines (ACM), terminal servers and printers, traffic signal field-lane devices and video image review.

Ability to use a computerized work order management system to enter and maintain maintenance and repair reports, records, and associated inventory of parts and services.

A combination of training, experience, or education in Electronics or related field desired.
